Co-Curricular Transcript:

What is the Co-Curricular Transcript?

The Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT) is a combination of verified and self-reported documentation that lists activities students have participated in while enrolled at The University of Alabama.  Used along with a student’s resume, the co-curricular transcript provides additional depth into understanding the impact of involvement on a student’s experience at UA.  This document can be used to support student involvement and contributions made during their time in college.  Additionally, the CCT is intended to complement the academic transcript by demonstrating the development of knowledge, as well as skills sought by employers and graduate degree programs.

What should be included in my Co-Curricular Transcript?

The Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT) is a multi-layer document that contains the following components:

  • Leadership Activities - in any organization, activity, or program
  • Professional or Educational Development (Experiences) - participation in any co-curricular learning experience i.e. workshops, training programs, or volunteer experiences- related to personal or professional development
  • Honors, Awards, and Recognitions for involvement - any type of formal recognition given to you as an individual or as a part of a group
  • Participation in Student Organizations - membership in any organization, club, activity, or program in which you are an engaged participant

Through involvement in co-curricular experiences, students gain transferable skills that can be applied to many areas outside of the college setting.  When coupled with your academic transcript and resume, a holistic picture of your contributions, interests, and abilities are portrayed.  Through the CCT, you can also add Descriptions and Self-Reflections to your student CC T portfolio.

How do I create an “Unofficial Co-Curricular Transcript?

Through my SOURCE, you can keep track of these involvements.  After the first time a user logs into their profile at http://thesource.ua.edu, My SOURCE starts building the Co-Curricular Transcript.  Involvement in organizations, attendance at events, self-reflections, and personally added experiences help to grow this transcript.  To access your Co-Curricular Transcript, follow the directions below:

  1. Go to thesource.ua.edu
  2. Click on the “My SOURCE” Logo and click login with your myBama information
  3. Click on the “My Involvement” option in the top menu bar.
  4. Click on the “Co-Curricular Transcript” option at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
  5. Add or remove the positions, reflections, events, experiences and service hours wanted on or off the transcript.
  6. Click the “Save” button at the top of the page.
  7. Click “Print” at the top of the page and a new browser window will open with a printable view of the transcript or click “Create PDF” to download a PDF version of the transcript.

Unofficial co-curricular transcripts can be useful for students who are working on building a resume or in reflecting on experiences to include in an application for graduate school.  Unofficial co-curricular transcripts are not signed by UA officials and are marked with an "unofficial" watermark.

What are the different categories that show up on my Co-Curricular Transcript?

My SOURCE provides a template for the Co-Curricular Transcript and the user adjusts the content and layout before generating the final transcript.  The “Change Layout” button allows the user to edit the order of categories and whether or not they are displayed.

The following text appears at the bottom of every “Official” Co-Curricular Transcript:

**This transcript is not valid without an official seal from The University of Alabama or authorized signature from the Office of Student Involvement in the Division of Student Affairs.  This Co-Curricular Transcript is a self-reported official record of leadership accomplishments and involvement in student organizations, community service activities and professional /educational development programs. It is designed as a means of recognizing "out of class" learning, development, and contributions during a students’ college career.**

Below is information on the different categories of content that may be included on the Co-Curricular transcript.

Campus Involvement: This area is populated with the information from each organization which the user has been listed as a member of their roster.  Beyond that, each position held within that organization is listed and independently editable.  There is also the possibility to add a self-reflection and service hours to involvement in an organization.

Reflections: Reflections can be written to highlight involvement in an organization or attendance at an event.  An appropriate reflection will often include what was gained from the involvement.  Reflections are written by visiting “My Involvement” > “Memberships” and clicking into the desired organization.

Service Hours: Service Hours are used to help track the time spent on community service-related projects as part of the participation in an organization.  Service Hours can be submitted through “My Involvement” > “Service Hours” tab.  These hours can be listed with the organization with which they were accomplished.

Events: When an event is created in mySOURCE, the event creator has the ability to allow its attendees to add that event to their Co-Curricular Transcript.  This will often be the case for workshops, lectures, and other educational events hosted on campus.  Again, it is only possible to add an event to the Co-Curricular transcript if the event creator deemed it appropriate.  In addition, the mySOURCE Link will not display the event as an option for the user unless they are listed as having attended that particular event.  Reflections can be written about events and included on the transcript as well.

Experiences: The Experiences tool allows the user to add information about other extra-curricular involvements.  Below is a list of the types available for experience submissions.  To submit an experiences, go to “My Involvement “> “Experiences” and click “Add Experience.”

How can I obtain an “Official” Co-Curricular Transcript?

The official co-curricular transcript is a verified document from The University of Alabama authorized by the Office of Student Involvement. Official co-curricular transcripts can be useful as part of an application for graduate school or as an addendum to an employment application or leadership application.  Official co-curricular transcripts are signed by a UA Official and are embossed with an official UA seal. In order to obtain an official co-curricular transcript, the student must submit a Co-Curricular Verification Form and attend a Co-Curricular Engagement Session.  The Co-Curricular Verification Form is submitted after attending the Co-Curricular (CCT) Engagement Session.  Students can sign up for the CCT Engagement Session on My SOURCE under the “Campus Links” tab beginning Fall 2013.
